How She Styled It: Trudy Stump with Huff Harrington Design
Born and raised in Piqua, Ohio, Trudy Stump leads Huff Harrington Design as Lead Designer - though you’d never guess she isn’t a born-and-bred Southern belle. Nearly seven years into her tenure with Huff Harrington, Trudy is celebrated for her exquisite taste, refined design sensibility, and contagious optimism. Just as integral to her work is her intuitive ability to connect with clients. She is a thoughtful listener who takes the time to truly understand their needs, translating their vision into spaces that feel personal, sophisticated, and always chic. Prior to diving into the world of interiors, Trudy honed her spatial design skills through years of experience in leadership roles for brands including Gap, Spanx, and Serena & Lily. Through frequent travel to France, where she assists with international design projects and installations, Trudy has developed a signature approach - blending old and new with her own playful, unexpected twist. Outside the design office, she can be found strolling Chastain Park with her handsome English Lab, Beau, or enjoying a lively dinner out with her husband, glass of bubbly in hand! Q&A What Cuvée Home items did you select and why? I chose the Sadie Ceramic Table Lamp in Bone paired with the Gathered Anika Lampshade. I love how the clean, sculptural base balances with the soft, traditional feel of the gathered shade. Together they bring a warm, classic touch that layers beautifully into any room. Describe your home or personal design aesthetic in 3 words: Classic, warm, timeless. What is your favorite styling piece or accessory? It’s hard to pick just one! I always come back to the power of layering - it’s the key to making a space feel complete, collected, and deeply personal. Whether it's a coffee table book that expresses a passion of a client, a warm and cozy throw over an occasional chair or a memento from a parent or grandparent, it is those kinds of touches that feel special across the accessories. Where do you find inspiration: Everywhere! A beautiful fabric might inspire an entire family room, and a restaurant in Paris could spark ideas for a bedroom. My eye is constantly drawn to finishes - color, texture, materials, or anything architecturally striking. Favorite Design Book: It changes monthly - I’m always rotating through new sources of inspiration but this month's favorite is Inside Sicily by Christopher Garis! Favorite Cocktail: An Old Fashioned What is your favorite room in your house and why? My Keeping Room. It’s wrapped in windows, filled with comfortable chairs, and it’s where the best conversations happen. It’s also my favorite place to drink my morning coffee and watch the sun come up. Any tips for creating a stylish home? Mix something new with something old. It adds depth, personality, and that “lived-in” feeling every room needs. This could be your grandmother’s stools, artwork from your childhood home, or a beloved rug that’s been passed down - those pieces make a space truly yours. Q&A What Cuvée Home items did you select and why? I chose the Petite Table Lamp in Sky paired with the Gathered Tulipiere Lampshade in Ecru. Together they strike that perfect balance of timeless and fresh—the clean lines of the lamp anchor a room, while the gathered shade adds just the right amount of softness and charm. It feels like a forever piece: versatile enough to move from room to room, yet special enough to stand on its own. Describe your home or personal design aesthetic in 3 words: Nostalgic, collected, traditional. What is your favorite styling piece or accessory? I have a real love for lampshades. A well-chosen topper is such an easy—and often affordable—way to instantly elevate a room. It’s like jewelry for the home. Where do you find inspiration: Estate sales. Always. Favorite Design Book: Markham Roberts: Decorating the Way I See It. Favorite Cocktail: A spicy margarita. What is your favorite room in your house and why? Right now, it’s the guest room. I finally installed a wallpaper I’d been storing away for years, and the space suddenly feels like me. The pattern—Pierre Frey’s Papillons—came with matching curtains I scooped up at an estate sale nearly a decade ago. Walking by that room and catching a glimpse of those butterflies every day feels like a small delight. Any tips for creating a stylish home? Start by thrifting and secondhand sourcing—it’s the quickest way to add soul, patina, and personality. Then, do what makes you happy. Go with your instincts and broaden your horizons by reading as many books and magazines as you can. A stylish home doesn’t require a big budget or waiting until your kids are grown—it’s about mixing old and new, editing with intention, and creating a space that tells your story. I was born and raised in Northern VA and went to George Mason University to study Marketing and Events Management. Shortly after starting college I met my college sweetheart and after graduating we moved up to Boston, MA where we currently live with our son and daughter in an early 1800's federal farmhouse. After various roles in different industries such as the wedding industry and commercial real estate, I finally made the leap to start my own residential interior design business after just having my daughter. Oliver James Interiors is the combination of my son and daughter's middle names which embodies the spirit of bringing life to my clients homes that is not only personal and timeless, but a design guaranteed to be treated with care as if it were my own. In my free time I love to garden take bike rides with my family, enjoy good food and beverages, and travel near and far! Q&A What Cuvée Home items did you select and why? We loved the Gathered Ahana Stripe Lampshades for our kitchen island pendant light. The pleated fabric adds romance and texture while the shades of greens and reds work harmoniously with the rest of our kitchen design. Describe your home or personal design aesthetic in 3 words: Charming, cozy, welcoming What is your favorite styling piece or accessory? It's not a coincidence I chose a pleated lampshade from Cuvee Home because I often find myself switching out basic lampshades for more interesting styles to add interest to a room. I also love solid brass styling items whether it's a little antique brass bunny or ginkgo leaf brass tray to style on top of a pile of books, for example. Where do you find inspiration: It sounds cliche but travel and nature are my biggest sources of inspiration. I've been fortunate to have traveled on most continents around the world and have been exposed to different cultures, topography, etc and there is an endless amount of inspiration whether it be through color palettes, patterns, forms, textures and more. Favorite Design Book: Ohh that's a tough one since I've been reading a lot of great ones lately but maybe Charm School: The Schumacher Guide to Traditional Decorating. Favorite Cocktail: Either a Naked & Famous or Pisco Sour What is your favorite room in your house and why? Our primary bedroom. It has the most cheerful blue-green and mustard yellow floral William Morris wallpaper on the walls with beautiful original trim and fireplace from the 1800's and it's just a very charming, welcoming sanctuary to start and end our days in. Any tips for creating a stylish home? I recommend collecting antique and vintage furniture, pottery, art, and textiles overtime that light you up inside. I also recommend always having fresh flowers around the house and scents through diffusers or candles. Having a place to store everything helps keep the unwanted clutter down to a minimum.
